I was recently really sick with a gross virus that left me bedridden for five days with headaches, coughing, a running nose, raspy throat, and the worst - nausea. But I learnt a few things helped me a LOT. And I know, you'll just about do anything when you feel like awful to feel better (and be way more grateful for it!), so tab this one as the seasons change.... just. in.case.
ARBONNE HYDRATION DRINK - If, like me, you're vomiting and coughing and generally extremely dehydrated, these little sachets are the bomb.I notice a reduced severity in headaches within minutes of drinking one and because it tastes so nice I also feel half human again. Big tick.
SOUP FOR THE SOUL
MISO SOUP - Can you believe I've only just discovered this stuff (thanks Cheryl)! It is heaven-sent in getting food in your belly and the comforting warmth might just put you off to sleep again. Yes to all those fermented micro-organisms doing their thang!
ARBONNE GREENS CONCENTRATE - I rarely stray from having my breakfast smoothies (going halvies with Ben when I was sick though) and packing them full of greens, fruits, pro-biotics, and super foods. It got something gentle in my tummy but also gave me a glimmer of vitality. Fight those germs you good greens!
GET YOUR GREENS
BROCCOLI, SNOW PEAS & BRUSSEL SPROUTS - When I was sick I woke up craving this combo so yay for full food and yay for it's simple deliciousness. With a bit of coconut oil and pepper too. Better than vegemite on toast guys 😉
GO SCREEN FREE
And finally, STAY OFF SOCIAL MEDIA - It's headache inducing enough to stare at a tiny screen for any length of time, let alone, scroll, try to read off it, or try to think of something to write. If reading this is about the extent of today's activities then be totally OK with that. Even Beyonce takes a day off sista!
Annnnnd I'm using this wonderful meditation to remind myself of all that.
Even if you are well, have a listen, maybe several times over....I love it!
+ GRATITUDE MEDITATION EXERCISE
PS. I know it's easy to beat yourself up because you got sick and you 'don't have time for that.' But whatever you missed (well almost anything) can be caught up on, done later, handled by someone else, or if you're inclined to think like me...you just weren't meant to be there. It's probs not a wise move to own the sickness and keeping it around longer than it needs to be here by acting the patient or getting all woe is me. AKA bungin it on. Legit term.
Instead, try to understand where the dis-ease in your mind and body started, and work to heal it and recognize it's patterns so you can tend to it sooner when next you feel it coming. That means listening to your mind and body, heaping does's of self care - and yes - sticking to a healthy living routine as much as possible...because you know how good you feel when you really do look after yourself and tune in. And don't we all wanna feel that way all the time?

Below, let's take a look at a five wellness resolutions that do require a little work, but are well worth keeping for their ongoing life-loving benefits.
“For a change, don't add new things in your life as a new year's resolution. Instead, do more of what's already working for you and stop doing things that are a time-waste.”
1. SWAP & SCHEDULE FOOD & MOVEMENT
Now is as good time as any to look at our lifestyle and see what aspects of it are having a negative impact on our health. Especially after what might have been another year of the Christmas 'silly-season' binge-guilt-binge a little more cycle. It doesn't have to be like that, and with people catching on to the idea that you can still have fun without making yourself sick, there's a new level of respect for you to buck that trend.
Limiting vices or rather, swapping them out for healthier alternatives gives you a better chance to keep your diet clean, lean and green as much as possible, and so it becomes a lifestyle rather than a once and done or yo-yo kinda gig. Embrace learning new and exciting recipes or places to shop, finding the best raw dark chocolate or acai bowl ever. Make a pact with friends with the same goals and instead of meeting for wines, meet for walk and talks or cooking classes.
The reason why people join a gym at the beginning of the year but then stop going after a couple of visits is because they've failed to see the benefits. Even if you've only gone twice, they're still there!
Allow yourself to be a beginner at any exercise you wish to pursue
Schedule your exercise times and keep it fun if that's what keeps you doing it! By the end of the month, you’ll start to see (let alone feel) the effects of your efforts, and then put no end date ever on keeping your body in movement. Know that this part of your routine is developing and you're simply doing what feels best!
2. GET A FULL BODY HEALTH CHECK-UP
Do what's needed to support every other goal you'll ever set in your life by doing what's needed to stay optimally alive! And do it with a sense of gratitude, because trust me, you'll learn so much about yourself and you'll forever set your goals differently.
3. SWITCH TO CLEANER BEAUTY
If you've been living in denial about unnecessary and toxic fillers and poisons in your beauty routine it's only to get harder to ignore as it becomes a bigger trend - and in some cases - the law.
Decide to do a drawer detox and toss out of date products, use up half-empty bottles, and be enthusiastic about finding cleaner, safer skincare, hair care, body care and makeup alternatives to your favourites. They exist and they're better than you think. Oh, and wash your brushes, girl!
4. STAND TALL & OWN YOUR SPACE
If you turn a few heads and get a few admiring glances, just know that you are seen in this world rather than assuming critical judgement. Everyone is judging everyone but that's none of your business.
Let your thoughts only entertain good, your body assume poise, ease, sassiness or sexiness, and your energy reflect the warmth and vibrancy of who you intrinsically are.
5. INVEST IN YOUR SELF DEVELOPMENT
Finally, remember that there’s no substitute for a positive attitude! It’s something that people are naturally attracted to. Be a force of good vibes, and your spirit will elevate how people view you - and how you view yourself.
Work on your personal arsenal of tools to cope, grow through challenges, handle emotions, be out of balance at times, as well as be humbly successful at achieving all of your wildest dreams. Invest quiet time often to become self-aware, strengthening your resilience and bounce-back-ability to become a robust whole human happy in oneself.
Use personal development books, courses, like-minded tribes and affirmations to stay well, avoid comparison and sustainably keep and meet all your worthwhile goals and resolutions.
How are you resolving to be well from this moment forward?

Spend the day alone, smiling and laughing at yourself and the thoughts that come up, and have fun in your own company. You will come back feeling so much happier, and knowing you'll be just fine to do it again.
2. TRAVEL SOLO
Sometimes the only way to truly learn about who you are is to take yourself away from your comfort zone and try something completely new. If you want to get away from the noise of the rest of the world for a while, book yourself a trip to somewhere you know you can relax. It will be the ideal opportunity to explore (both yourself and the environment), enjoy the fresh air and really start to appreciate who you are. Anyone who has traveled solo will likely tell you just how much you can learn and love about yourself in doing so, and how proud they are that they did it!
3. FORGIVE YOURSELF
One of the main things which will often hang over our heads is the mistakes we have made throughout our lives. If you feel as if all you ever do is make mistakes and you blame yourself for everything, a change of perspective can set you free. At the end of the day, everyone in the world makes mistakes, and these mistakes and experiences form part of who we are. You wouldn’t be who you are without these experiences, and you need to learn to take them with you and let them make you a stronger person. Try repeating the mantra 'I love and forgive myself and I move forward powerfully' each time the feelings of shame or guilt of your mistakes creeps in.
5. WRITE IT DOWN
Journaling is an incredibly effective way to let out your emotions and express how you are feeling. It is a sort of therapy which can calm the soul and allow you to really take stock of your day and any issues or questions you might have coming up time and time again. If you are stressed and worried about people or circumstances in life, free writing in a journal can be a way to cope and a way to open up without talking to people about it right away. Allow yourself time each day to give this kindness and release to yourself and see how it transforms your thoughts, decision making and confidence.
6. STOP COMPARING YOURSELF
Comparing yourself to other people is so often a toxic behaviour that breeds envy and a feeling of inadequacy. If you constantly look at images or the lives of other people and compare yourself to then, it can spiral a chain of thoughts about anything from losing weight, buying things you don't really need or afford, or other extreme moves. It's an unhealthy way to live when you are trying to be someone that you are not, and distracts you from doing what you truly love that often results in loving yourself for you and achieving your own version of success. Stop the extreme comparisons and start focusing on the things you love about yourself, doing more of those to the best of your ability in ways that make you happy. And remember that whether you know it or not, there's probably someone looking at you, wishing they were more like you, and admiring your true you!
7. SAY NO TO OTHERS
Far too many of us spend our lives trying to please everyone else without a second thought to our own well-being. If you truly want to be happy and you want to love yourself as a person you need to start putting yourself first. If people try to take up all of your time for their needs, you have to learn how to say no once in a while, or at least make compromises that they will help you out with something too. You can be a kind and compassionate person without giving up your sense of self and need for self love. You cannot give from an empty tank - so give to yourself first using the methods discussed here and you may find you have more to give to right people, causes or concerns. And never let anyone stop you from pursuing your dreams.
8. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Do you have a tendency to be harder on yourself than anyone else? Do you believe you aren’t good enough to find love/achieve your goal/do that amazing thing? To stop this behaviour right now, start to think about your accomplishments and the things you have done well. What have you done which you are proud of?Have you sung in front of an audience? Got an award? Tried something crazy? Been a terrific friend? Any of these things can make you feel strong, brave and worthy of your own love. Note them in your phone whenever you think of them and refer back to them when feelings of unworthiness try to shake you or stop you.
9. MAKE A VISION BOARD
If you want to motivate yourself towards something great, you can create what’s called a vision board of collaged images of places you want to travel, things you want to do, and how you want to feel etc. Hang it somewhere that you will see every single day as a great motivator for you to get off your butt and do something towards your goals. And whenever you glimpse a goal on that board do a little happy dance, give yourself a high five or click your fingers to ignite the emotion of you already having achieved those things. You can also use your vision board powerfully in meditations and keep a screen shot on your phone for an on-the-go reminder of your best life!
“When you recover or discover something that nourishes your soul and brings joy, care enough about yourself to make room for it in your life.”
10. DO THAT CLASS, COURSE OR CRAFT
Taking up a class, course, or craft that you've always wanted to do can give you fresh inspiration for self loving, life loving, new friends, and new inspiration. Find a hobby or pursuit that you love to practice every week, or take this opportunity to try a new one that challenges you. Things such as trampolining, hiking, painting, yoga or baking can be great hobbies to try with others that will also allow you to spend time with yourself and learn new things about your skills and loves. Jump online and find out what's on offer in your area, and give something a go with gusto!

Whether we realise it or not, we all engage in affirmations. The pep talk that we give ourselves before a presentation, or the mantra we repeat to get us through our workout routine, are all forms of affirmation.
They reflect the idea that you are what you think; that words have a power of their own and we can use our inner monologues to change our reality.
1. I AM WORTH IT
Sometimes we stick with bad habits simply because we don’t truly see ourselves as worthy of change. Adopting a mindset of self-worth is the very first, and arguably most important, step towards positive health and wellbeing.
2. TODAY I ABANDON MY OLD HABITS & TAKE UP NEW, POSITIVE ONES
Changing old habits is hard and a big part of the challenge is shifting our mentality. Actively verbalising that we will abandon old habits and take up new ones can help to cement our goals, bringing them out of our thoughts into our reality.
3. I AM SO MUCH MORE THAN MY PAST &/OR MY MISTAKES
As humans we are fallible and we make mistakes. Bad choices don’t make us a bad person and we all deserve self-compassion and forgiveness.
4. EACH DAY I’M LEARNING MORE ABOUT MYSELF & THE WORLD
Humans are wired to thrive from a feeling of progress and development. Repeating this affirmation reminds you that you are continually growing as a person, often in ways that you may not even be able to fully appreciate yet.
5. NOTHING IS FOREVER
Sometimes when big decisions loom ahead of us, we can place a lot of pressure on ourselves to make the ‘right’ choice. This is when it’s important to remember that no decision is permanent and there are always other options.
7. I AM GRATEFUL FOR…
Recognising what we have, rather than what we feel we may be lacking, is one of the cornerstones to positive thinking and wellbeing more generally. This is a great affirmation to practice and journal on daily, as it makes you realise just how many things there are to be grateful for in your life. And abundance goes where gratitude grows.
8. I TAKE NOTICE OF MYSELF & HOW I FEEL
When we feel frustrated or sad, it’s common to project those feelings onto others. By practising self awareness and analysing the reasons behind our feelings, we can better regulate our emotions and prevent them from impacting our relationships with others.
9. I AM BRIMMING WITH ENERGY & LIFE
Evocative, visual affirmations like this can have a visceral effect in helping us to start our day energised, helping to lift us back up when we’re feeling demotivated or lethargic.
10. THE WONDER OF LIFE IS HAPPENING IN THIS MOMENT
We can get so busy and caught up in everyday life that it can be easy to lose our natural sense of curiousity and wonder at the world. This affirmation brings us back down to earth, forcing us to pause and recognise that every moment we are alive is precious.
11. MY LIFE IS FILLED WITH PURPOSE
Feeling that our lives have purpose is vital to our wellbeing, yet we can get so caught up in getting things done that we forget the reason why we’re doing it. It’s important to remind ourselves that our actions do matter and that they have a purpose.
12. I BREATHE IN CALM, I BREATHE OUT MY ANXIETY
There’s a reason we are told to ‘just breathe’ when we feel anxious or overwhelmed – breathing deeply facilitates full oxygen exchange and helps to slow our heart rate and stabilise our blood pressure. Repeating this affirmation allows us to more consciously feel these health benefits, uniting our mind and body’s response.
13. I AM OPEN TO THE WORLD & ITS CHALLENGES
When we are fearful and inhibited, we close ourselves to valuable new experiences and opportunities that the world has on offer. Repeating this affirmation can help us to feel strong in facing the unknown, thus building our confidence in taking risks.
14. I AM CARED FOR
Simply recalling the people that care about us can be a powerful tool in positive thinking, motivating us to achieve our goals and reminding us that we are not alone.
15. I HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE MY THOUGHTS
Ultimately, the effectiveness of affirmations comes down to belief. Our thoughts can either trap us in negative cycles or spur us on to become our best selves. The starting point, however, is believing that we are in control of our own mindset and that change truly can happen.
What are your healthy living actions to support these affirmations?
